You Speak, We Listen...Great additions to MCC

At yesterday's MCC Live event in Royal Oak the question "What can MCC do for you" was asked.

Based on the feedback here are a few of the improvements that will be made to MCC:

I just added two new discussion groups:

1.  MotorCityConnect Success Stories-  We want to celebrate with you.  Let us know the good stuff that happens as a result of your being here.  I am also looking for real life examples of MCC working for a presentation that Mr.s Biskner, Patino and I are doing this coming Tuesday in Lansing.  Your story may make you famous (at least for 15 seconds).

2.  MotorCityConnect Experts:  One of the results of yesterdays conversation was that we have a TON of experts here on MCC and wouldn't it be cool if they shared their specific knowledge for the good of us all.  So if you are a mortgage guy, tell us about how to make the best use of our single largest asset.  If you're in telecom, tell us what to look for when changing service.  If you have home improvement tips, do share.  Whatever you do, don't make it a commercial.  Trust me, if you share your knowledge professionally and objectively, people will seek you out!  If you don't, I will seek you out ;-)

We will be having at least two social gatherings per month.  We will be moving them around to different areas, so come join us for networking and your choice of beverage at a location near you.

Starting in May, MCC will be having breakfast meetings.  That's right...start your day off right at an MCC live event.  More details to come.

We will be expanding the Business Attraction Series and adding more great speakers to that line up.  It will include both MCC members and expert speakers from outside the area.  They will deliver information that can impact your business NOW!

We will be also adding the "Soup to Nuts" series as well.  Here you will have the opportunity to learn more about the experts in MCC.  The format will be engaging, informative and very topical.

Terry will be offering classes on networking.  Here you will learn best practices for both online and offline networking.  You will have the ability to immediately implement what you learn while at the meeting.

Lots more opportunity to come together as a community to help others, learn and play.  This Saturday is the Christmas in Action event and we will be doing the blightbusters day on May 31.  There are a ton of other great events going on, check the  Calendar today!  I would love to see our members start hosting open houses.  This may tie nicely into the "Soup to Nuts" series.  Finally, with winter gone, look for picnics, playdates and the second annual MCC golf outing.

Great idea Terry!

Identity Theft is the fastest growing fraud trend we face today.

According to the Federal Trade Commission, nearly 500,000 Americans are victimized each year, costing financial institutions over $5 billion. To clean up one’s credit report and associated complications requires an average of $800 and 175 hours.

I teach a free Identity Theft Protection seminar developed by the American Bankers Association that is approximately 30 minutes in length.

I have also taught SBA financing and Business Credit 101 seminars at local Community Colleges.

In my fairly lengthy post I brought up the concept of members doing open houses and potentially combining with the "Soup to Nuts" series where the members would share their expertise.  Someone brought it to my attention that their office wasn't necessarily conducive to hosting such a meeting.  Come to think of it, I couldn't fit too many of you in my office either.  Perhaps you have seen my office??  It has four wheels, a moon roof and a Kick A$$ stereo.

For those of us in that situation, may I suggest the following:

Consider using a library or other community space.  There are lots of restaurants, coffee houses or other retail spaces that will accommodate 10-15 people that you can use for free and host it there. Find another member whose office is out by you and "co-host" it with them.  Kmart has a lot of space in Troy and there is also the Silverdome, both seem to be abundant and available.
